Do not miss the solemn American Cemetery at Colleville sur Mer. Each stage brings you into the heart of history, from interactive museums to powerful places of remembrance.
Welcome to Caen, the vibrant capital of Lower Normandy, easily reached by train. This is where your Normandy bike adventure begins, set in a region rich in history and heritage. Once the seat of William the Conqueror, Caen offers a wealth of medieval treasures. You can admire the majestic Ducal Castle, the Abbaye aux Hommes, and the Abbaye aux Dames. Don’t miss the Peace Memorial, an essential museum dedicated to 20th century history, especially World War II.

From downtown Caen, you’ll start your day by following a bike path alongside the Caen to the Sea Canal. It is a greenway perfect for safe and scenic cycling in Normandy. Upon reaching the famous Pegasus Bridge, you’ll find the first house liberated on D Day, now a beloved café for cyclists. Take a break here before visiting the Pegasus Bridge Museum, which tells the incredible story of British glider pilots.
Continue your Normandy bike route along the River Orne on a tranquil road to the Merville Redoubt. The city is in fact a historic fort perched at the edge of the beach. The welcoming seaside village of Merville Franceville is ideal for a relaxed lunch. In the afternoon, don’t miss the Merville Battery. It is an immersive museum where you can experience what it felt like to be in a glider or a bomber aircraft. Then enjoy a peaceful return to Caen along the canal greenway.

On this stage of your Normandy cycling tour, head toward the Canadian Cemetery at Reviers via scenic country lanes. Continue to Juno Beach, the Canadian sector of the landings, and dive deeper into history at the Juno Beach Centre. It tells the story of D Day and Canada’s pivotal role in the war.
Next, pedal to Arromanches les Bains, a major site of remembrance with its Mulberry Harbor and two must see museums: the Arromanches Landing Museum and the spectacular Arromanches 360° Cinema, featuring original wartime footage. From the vantage point above the bay, take in sweeping coastal views. At the end of the day, make your way to Bayeux along peaceful Norman backroads.
Longer Variant (40mi): Start your day by joining the Vélomaritime, the emblematic coastal bike route that follows the English Channel. Pass Pegasus Bridge again, roll through the port of Ouistreham, and cycle along the seaside to Sword Beach. It is a beautiful detour for lovers of coastal scenery.

Today’s cycling stage takes you into the heart of the Norman countryside, with quiet lanes and major historic sites of the D Day landings. First is the dramatic American Cemetery at Colleville sur Mer, solemn in its beauty, followed by the moving Overlord Museum. Continue on to Omaha Beach, legendary for its history and iconic monuments.
On the way back, enjoy a stop in Port en Bessin, a charming working fishing port perfect for sampling fresh seafood.
Longer Variant (50 mi): Begin with a scenic detour to Pointe du Hoc, a spectacular cliffside site overlooking the sea, then return via Omaha Beach, the American Cemetery, and Port en Bessin.

Before you depart from Bayeux, take time to visit the Bayeux Tapestry Museum, home to an extraordinary 11th century embroidered tapestry over 230 feet long, depicting the Norman conquest of England by William the Conqueror. By train
Caen station is well served by Intercités and regional TER trains. From Paris Saint-Lazare, the journey takes around 2 hours. The station is close to the city center and can be reached on foot, by bus, or by taxi.
By air
Caen–Carpiquet Airport is located about a 15-minute drive from the city center. It offers regular flights to several domestic and European destinations. Taxis and bus services provide easy connections to the city center and the train station.
By car
Caen is accessible via the A13 motorway (from Paris), the A84 (towards Rennes), and the A88 (towards Le Mans). Parking is available in the city center, as well as park-and-ride facilities (P+R) connected to the Twisto public transport network.
Return travel from Caen is not arranged by us. Each guest is therefore free to organize their departure according to their own schedule and preferences.
