Discover the magic of Bordeaux by bike, an exceptional journey through some of the most beautiful landscapes, vineyards, and villages in southwestern France. This cycling tour from Bordeaux takes you deep into the heart of a legendary region, where vineyards, stone villages, and golden light come together in perfect harmony.
From Pauillac to Saint-Émilion, passing through Margaux, Blaye, and the Corniche Fleurie, you’ll cycle peaceful country roads lined with vines, forests, and world-famous châteaux. This Bordeaux cycling trip is much more than a simple itinerary. It’s an immersion in French wine culture and art de vivre.
Each stage is a sensory experience: the scent of oak barrels, the glow of sunlight on rolling vineyards, and encounters with local winemakers. You’ll pedal through some of the world’s most prestigious appellations, Médoc, Pomerol, and Saint-Émilion, while enjoying a journey that’s both accessible and refined.
With a perfectly balanced route and a pace designed for easy discovery, this cycling tour through the Gironde appeals to both wine lovers and recreational cyclists. Between estuary and hills, châteaux and medieval villages, UNESCO heritage sites and scenic wine routes, every turn of the wheel reveals a new facet of the Bordeaux region. Your adventure ends in style in Bordeaux, the world’s wine capital, a city of grand architecture, lively quays, and incomparable French charm.
Your Bordeaux cycling adventure begins in the city itself, a UNESCO World Heritage jewel and gateway to the vineyards. After a short transfer to the Médoc, you’ll arrive in Pauillac, the starting point of your journey. Here, endless rows of vines spread across the landscape, punctuated by majestic châteaux that embody the region’s winemaking heritage.
Take time to stroll through the village, breathe in the scent of the cellars, and gaze across the shimmering Gironde estuary at sunset. This first evening sets the tone : a slow-paced, immersive cycling journey where every pedal stroke connects you to the land and the wine.

Today is a feast for the senses. You’ll follow the legendary Route des Grands Crus, crossing the Médoc’s most prestigious appellations. Cycling past legendary estates such as Château Lafite Rothschild, Latour, Mouton Rothschild, Pichon Longueville, Pontet-Canet, and Lynch-Bages, each turn reveals another masterpiece of architecture and viticulture.
The route passes through Saint-Julien, Moulis, and Margaux, home to the elegant Château Margaux, one of France’s most iconic vineyards. It’s an unforgettable day for wine lovers, a true cycling and wine-tasting journey through the heart of Bordeaux’s finest terroirs.

A change of scenery awaits. Cycle to Lamarque, where a traditional ferry will carry you across the Gironde estuary to Blaye. The crossing offers breathtaking views of vineyards, rivers, and the UNESCO-listed Vauban Citadel, rising proudly above the water. From Blaye, follow the charming Route de la Corniche Fleurie, a scenic road that winds between limestone cliffs, tiny fishing ports, and palm-lined paths.
The atmosphere is softer here, greener, quieter, more intimate. Continue toward Bourg-sur-Gironde, perched dramatically above the river, one of the most picturesque villages in the Bordeaux region. A perfect spot to have a break, reflect, and soak in the rhythm of French country life.

Today’s cycle stage takes you eastward, toward the Right Bank of Bordeaux, home to legendary appellations: Fronsac, Pomerol, and Saint-Émilion. You’ll pedal through rolling hills and vineyard-dotted valleys where some of Bordeaux’s greatest red wines are born, the result of centuries of craftsmanship and passion.
Cycle past world-renowned estates like Château Angélus, Cheval Blanc, and Pétrus, whose very names evoke perfection. Fronsac, quieter and more authentic, offers a glimpse of Bordeaux’s rural soul with its peaceful slopes and charming hamlets. And then, the highlight: your arrival in Saint-Émilion. As the village appears on the horizon, the terrain tightens, golden stone walls emerge, and church towers rise above the vines.
Go up the final hill, and suddenly the medieval town unfolds in front of you : ochre rooftops, ramparts, and vineyards spreading as far as the eye can see. This is the essence of cycling in Bordeaux: arriving under your own strength in a timeless village, feeling the warmth of the stones and the pride of the land. A day filled with emotion, history, and the pure beauty of the French countryside.

This day is dedicated to exploring Saint-Émilion, a UNESCO World Heritage treasure. Perched on its limestone hill, surrounded by a ocean of vines, it’s a living postcard of French wine culture. Cycle through the jurisdiction of Saint-Émilion, a landscape sculpted by centuries of winemaking. Wander its cobblestone streets, discover its monolithic church and underground cellars, and enjoy the peaceful rhythm of rural life.
Cycle out to Castillon-la-Bataille, a historic site of the Hundred Years’ War, before returning along the gentle banks of the Dordogne. Saint-Émilion by bike perfectly embodies the spirit of this journey, where heritage, nature, and the pleasure of cycling come together effortlessly.

For your penultimate day, leave the hills of Saint-Émilion and join one of France’s most beautiful cycling trails : the Roger Lapébie Greenway. Following an old railway line, this peaceful route winds through forests, villages, and bastides typical of the southwest. Stop to visit Romanesque churches, local markets, and fortified mills along the way. This stage is pure joy, a chance to slow down, breathe, and let the countryside reveal its secrets.
Arrive in Bordeaux along the Garonne riverfront, finishing your trip in spectacular fashion at the Place de la Bourse and its iconic Water Mirror. It’s a truly grand finale, a cycle triumphant arrival in the wine capital of the world.

Your Bordeaux cycling tour is over, but the spirit of the journey remains. Take time to stroll through the city’s historic quarters, visit the Wine & Trade Museum, or relax on the lively quays. Bordeaux is made for flâneurs, a city of art, flavor, and elegance, the perfect place to linger just a little longer.
