Alsace is one of Europe’s most inspiring regions for cyclists, a land where rolling vineyards, medieval villages, and gentle riverbanks create a perfect setting for an unforgettable bike tour. This journey blends nature, culture, and gastronomy into a smooth, immersive experience. Each day brings new landscapes: canals lined with ancient trees, bright hillsides covered with vines, and towns where centuries of history still shape everyday life.
As you ride, you’ll discover Romanesque abbeys, Gothic cathedrals, colorful half-timbered houses, and peaceful villages that seem untouched by time. Encounters with local winemakers, regional cuisine, and warm hospitality give this itinerary a unique emotional depth. By the end of the week, you’ll have explored not only the landscapes of Alsace, but also its authentic soul.
Your adventure begins in Strasbourg, a city where European modernity meets centuries of history. After settling into your hotel, enjoy a relaxed walk through the beautifully preserved old town. The Gothic cathedral rises above the city with its delicate spire and magnificent rose window, while the surrounding district offers charming lanes, riverside paths, and countless photogenic angles.
The historic quarter known as Petite France is one of the most picturesque areas in Europe. Canals, footbridges, and beautifully restored houses create a warm and welcoming atmosphere with cafés and wine bars lining the streets. It is an ideal introduction to Alsace.

Your cycling journey begins along the peaceful Rhône to Rhine Canal, a serene green corridor lined with tall plane trees. Soon, the urban atmosphere gives way to calm countryside dotted with traditional houses and quiet gardens. The route takes you through small rural villages, each with its own church tower, flower boxes, and unmistakable Alsatian character. The pace is gentle, allowing you to enjoy the birdsong, reflections on the water, and quiet moments by the locks.
You reach Sélestat, a historic town with impressive architecture ranging from medieval to Renaissance styles. Its old streets, squares, and heritage sites make it an ideal stop for the evening.

Your day begins with a visit to the Baroque abbey of Ebersmunster, one of the region’s artistic gems, known for its light-filled interior and elegant design. From there, the route crosses the Ried Plain, a protected natural area filled with wetlands, canals, meadows, and abundant wildlife.
Herons glide quietly over the water, storks nest in the treetops, and wildflowers bloom along the paths. The stage feels peaceful and deeply connected to nature.
As you approach Colmar, the landscape shifts again. This city is one of the highlights of the region, with perfectly preserved streets, canals, and colorful façades. Often called “Little Venice,” Colmar offers a romantic and enchanting atmosphere, especially in the early evening when the town lights reflect on the water.

Take your time in Colmar this morning. The Unterlinden Museum is one of the most remarkable cultural sites in France, housed in a former convent. Its world-famous masterpiece, the Isenheim Altarpiece, captivates visitors with its expressive power and extraordinary craftsmanship.
In the afternoon, you continue your journey south through the vineyards. The cycling stage is soothing and scenic, with rolling hills, small hamlets, and views toward the Vosges Mountains. The air carries subtle fragrances of soil, wild herbs, and ripening grapes.
You arrive in Guebwiller, a peaceful wine town set at the foot of the Grand Ballon, the highest peak in the Vosges. With its fountains, quiet squares, and welcoming atmosphere, Guebwiller offers an ideal end to a culturally rich day.

This stage follows the legendary Wine Route, a ribbon of picturesque roads weaving between vineyards and villages. Few cycling routes in Europe offer such variety and charm. Your first stop is Eguisheim, famous for its circular layout and brightly painted houses. It feels like stepping inside a living postcard. The village is surrounded by vineyards and offers numerous opportunities for tastings.
Next comes Turckheim, with its medieval walls and long-standing tradition of the night watchman who still calls the hour in the old streets. Afterward, you continue to Kaysersberg, one of the most beloved towns in Alsace. Its fortified bridge, riverside houses, and hillside castle create an unforgettable setting.
Your day ends in Riquewihr, a perfectly preserved medieval village surrounded by some of the region’s most prestigious vineyards. Its historic center, unchanged for centuries, is one of the most beautiful in all of France.

Continuing along the Wine Route, you first reach Hunawihr, known for its fortified church perched above the vineyards and its wildlife conservation center dedicated to storks and otters. A few kilometers farther lies Ribeauvillé, a lively medieval town overlooked by three dramatic castle ruins. With its fountains, narrow lanes, and wine cellars, Ribeauvillé is one of the most atmospheric stops on the route.
You then arrive in Bergheim, a rare village where the entire circuit of medieval walls remains intact. Walking through its fortified gate feels like stepping into another century. The journey continues to Andlau, home to a remarkable 9th-century abbey, one of the oldest religious monuments in the region, and surrounded by prestigious vineyards.
Your day ends in Obernai or Barr, both vibrant towns with charming squares, welcoming wine bars, and a warm, inviting evening ambiance.

Your final day begins in Rosheim, a town renowned for its Romanesque architecture. The Church of Saints Peter and Paul is a masterpiece of harmony and stone craftsmanship, and its serene atmosphere makes it a memorable stop.
From Rosheim, you continue to Molsheim, the birthplace of the legendary Bugatti brand. Its historic quarter and relaxed pace offer a pleasant transition before joining the Bruche Canal bike path, a peaceful, tree-lined route that guides you smoothly back toward Strasbourg. As the cathedral’s spire reappears on the horizon, you feel the satisfaction of completing a week-long journey through landscapes of exceptional beauty.
Back in Strasbourg, enjoy your final evening exploring squares, cafés, and the vibrant culture of this European capital. Your Alsace cycling adventure ends here with unforgettable memories of vineyards, villages, people, and flavors that define the region.
